How the NWHBC Group began and how to get involved

We, the Pringle family from Ullapool; Geoff, Rach. Finlay, Ella and our pawsome dog, Steve, spend a lot of time at the coast watching for whales and dolphins.

We are continually horrified about the amount of plastic pollution we come across on NW Highland beaches.

We began removing it and recording the weight of what was removed to inform Government of the scale of the problem.

We thought it might be interesting to create a Facebook group so that any member can upload what they find and we can add it to the running total.

We began recording on 26th December 2023. The intention to cover the coast from Redpoint to Cape Wrath.

If you enjoy beach walks and want to help the environment, get yourself a set of luggage scales, take a photo of what YOU pick up and the weight in kilos and join us in helping to keep North West Highland beaches clean.

We are happy to assist with larger cleans or where there are particularly bad spots needing more people.

Please be sensible, don’t put yourself in danger, wear gloves and use a litter picker if possible. We have 10 sets of gloves and litter pickers available for free if any member needs them.

Most plastic you find will not be suitable for recycling so please dispose of responsibly. Every single piece of plastic removed makes a difference and helps protect the wildlife and scenery we all love.
